Black sesame seeds are derived from the same plant as white sesame seeds, but they have not been hulled. They boast a stronger flavor profile and are a staple in many Asian cuisines. In traditional Chinese medicine, black sesame seeds are prized for their health-promoting properties. Their dark color is attributed to the presence of anthocyanins, a type of antioxidant.
