White sugar, or granulated sugar, is a commonly used sweetener in baking and cooking. It is derived from either sugarcane or sugar beet plants. Through a refining process, the natural sugars in these plants are extracted, cleaned, and crystallized. The end result is the white, crystalline granules that are commonly used in homes and commercial kitchens around the world.
